Seat Alhambra EGR Valve Issue
Summary of the thread
The conversation centers around a potential EGR valve issue in a 2014 Seat Alhambra diesel engine, with symptoms such as reduced engine power, check engine light, black smoke during acceleration, rough running, higher fuel consumption, jerking, and a hissing sound. These symptoms suggest a defective or jammed EGR valve, which could also lead to failing an emissions test. A faulty EGR valve was confirmed as the cause, and replacing it resolved the issues, restoring the vehicle's performance.

The smoke is black, and I haven't noticed any damage to the vacuum lines, though a check is in order. If it is a vacuum leak, could that alone cause the rough idle and jerking, or is the EGR valve the more likely culprit, especially with the increased fuel consumption?

Okay, black smoke suggests too much fuel, which could be linked to a faulty EGR. Even a small vacuum leak could cause a rough idle and jerking, but with those symptoms, the EGR valve seems like the prime suspect. Given your worry about the emissions test, I'd consider taking it to a workshop. They can properly diagnose it and confirm whether it's the EGR or something else affecting your vehicle emissions.

It was the EGR valve. The replacement was 355€, and the Alhambra runs smoothly again. Thanks for confirming my suspicions.

That sounds tricky. I'm no expert, but those symptoms could point to a vacuum leak somewhere, maybe affecting the EGR valve? Is the smoke black or white/blue? Have you checked for damage to vacuum lines?
