Seat Alhambra Electronic Parking Brake Issue

I'm experiencing an issue with the electronic parking brake on my 2004 Seat Alhambra with a Gasoline engine. The electronic handbrake is non-functional, an error is stored in the error memory, and a warning light is illuminated. I suspect a defective electric motor in the brake caliper. Repair cost is estimated at 505€.

Sounds like a faulty EPB actuator motor. I had the same issue with my Alhambra, electronic brake went haywire. The brake control module probably threw a fit. Did you check the wiring harness for any damage? Sometimes a loose connection can cause a system glitch.

Wiring harness looks fine at a glance. When yours failed, did it also store an error in the error memory, and show a warning light? Was it a complete brake failure?

Yes, exactly the same symptoms. Error code and the light. It wasn't a complete brake failure in the sense that the regular brakes still worked, but the parking brake was useless. If the wiring is okay, it's almost certainly the motor. Get it to a workshop; messing with the brake system isn't worth the risk.

Thanks for the input. The workshop confirmed the electric motor in the brake caliper was defective. Repair cost was around 505€. Problem solved.
