Seat Alhambra oxygen sensor issue

My 2016 Seat Alhambra with a gasoline engine has started playing up. The check engine light keeps coming on, and I'm pretty sure my fuel consumption has gone through the roof. I scanned the error memory and it's showing a problem with the oxygen sensor. I've read on some forums that it could be a dodgy cable or plug connection. Has anyone had a similar experience? Because my air-fuel ratio is driving me nuts and car maintenance is becoming a headache.

Sounds familiar. Had a similar issue with my old Vauxhall Astra a while back. Check engine light, rough idle, the whole shebang. High fuel consumption is a pain, isn't it? In my case, it turned out to be the oxygen sensor as well, but I'm not sure if it was the sensor itself or just a loose connection. Did you check the sensor connector and wiring for any damage or corrosion?

Yeah, the high fuel consumption is a real killer. I had a quick look at the sensor, but to be honest, I'm not really sure what I'm looking for. Where exactly should I be checking for corrosion? Is it something I can easily see, or do I need to get right in there?

That sounds about right. I wasn't comfortable poking around too much myself. Best bet is to take it to a workshop and get them to check the exhaust system. They'll be able to test the sensor properly and see if it's faulty or just a connection issue. Could be affecting the air-fuel ratio if it's not reading correctly.

Thanks for sharing your experience. I took it to a local garage and they found a fault with the oxygen sensor, just like we suspected. Turns out the connector was corroded. They cleaned it up, replaced the sensor, and now the check engine light is gone and the fuel efficiency seems back to normal. The final bill was around 95€, which I think is reasonable. Appreciate the help!
