Seat Alhambra rough running engine

I'm experiencing some issues with my 2000 Seat Alhambra with a gasoline engine. The engine is running rough, especially at idle, and sometimes it stalls. The check engine light is also on. When accelerating, the car jerks quite a bit. I suspect a defective ignition coil, maybe due to a faulty cable or plug connection. Has anyone else had a similar experience?

That sounds very familiar. I had a similar issue with my old Opel Astra. Rough running, engine hesitation, and the check engine light flashing. In my case, it turned out to be a faulty coil pack. Has anyone checked the ignition system thoroughly? A misfire could definitely cause those symptoms.

Thanks for the quick response. When you say coil pack, do you mean the ignition coil itself? I visually inspected the cable and plug connection, and they seem fine. Was the misfire constant in your case, or did it come and go?

Yes, the ignition coil. The garage called it the coil pack. The misfire was intermittent at first, but eventually became constant. Given your symptoms and the age of the car, it's definitely worth checking the ignition system thoroughly. If you are not comfortable doing that yourself, I recommend taking it to a trusted workshop. They should be able to diagnose it properly.

Turns out, it was a defective ignition coil. I had it replaced at the workshop, and the engine is running smoothly again. The bill came to 95€, which is what I expected. Thanks for the help.
