Seat Altea brake lights acting strange

Alright, I'm officially stumped and hoping someone can throw me a lifeline! I've got a 2014 Seat Altea with a gasoline engine and about 95000 km on the clock. Recently, the brake lights went haywire. I get an error stored in the error memory, the brake lights sometimes don't work, and there's a constant error message popping up on the infotainment system. I'm thinking maybe it was user error that caused this, but I'm not sure. Any ideas before I throw money at a mechanic?

Yep, almost certainly the brake light switch. It's located right at the top of the brake pedal assembly. While it might be tempting to DIY, I would suggest taking it to a workshop. I thought I could handle it myself once, but ended up creating more problems. It is a cheap fix, so maybe better to get it done by someone who knows exactly what they are doing.
