Seat Altea Bumper Antenna Issue

I own a 2011 Seat Altea with a gasoline engine. Recently, I've been having trouble with what I suspect is the bumper antenna. There's an error stored in the error memory, and the remote unlocking/locking is unreliable. Also, now the engine won't start unless the key is in the ignition. Could a defective cable or plug connection of the component really be the reason? It seems strange to me.

Interesting issue. I had something similar with my Altea. The symptoms you describe, especially the engine start problem and the remote not working correctly, sound familiar. Have you checked the antenna mount itself? Could be corrosion or damage there causing signal interference.

Thanks for the quick reply! When you say antenna mount, are you referring to the connection point on the bumper itself? Is it easy to access and inspect? I am a bit worried that I would not be able to find the antenna.

Yes, I am talking about the antenna mount on the bumper. In my case, it turned out to be a defective plug connection. If you are not comfortable inspecting it yourself, I would recommend taking it to a workshop. The diagnostic pointed to the bumper antenna and its repair cost me around 95€. Just make sure they check the cable for breaks or corrosion. Good luck!

Took it to the shop, and they confirmed it was the bumper antenna. The antenna repair cost 95€. Everything is working perfectly now. Thanks a lot for your help!
