Seat Altea Diesel Engine Power Loss
Summary of the thread
A 2006 Seat Altea diesel is experiencing reduced engine power, smoke during acceleration, and a strong exhaust smell, with a warning light indicating low diesel particulate filter (DPF) exhaust pressure. Possible causes include the need for DPF regeneration or an exhaust system leak. Suggested solutions involve checking for cracks or loose connections in the exhaust system, particularly around the particulate filter and pressure sensor, and considering professional inspection. The issue was ultimately resolved by replacing the exhaust back pressure sensor.

DPF regeneration? How does that work exactly, and what should I be looking for in the exhaust system?

DPF regeneration is basically the car burning off soot in the particulate filter. If the pressure's too low, it might not be doing it properly. Regarding the exhaust system, check for any cracks or loose connections, especially around the particulate filter and the pressure sensor. Honestly, might be worth getting it checked professionally. I ended up going to a workshop myself.

Turns out it was the exhaust back pressure sensor. Cost me 245€ to get it sorted.

I had a similar issue with my Altea. Could be the DPF needing regeneration. Have you checked the exhaust system for leaks? A leak can cause low pressure readings.
