Seat Altea Diesel Engine Power Loss
Summary of the thread
A 2004 Seat Altea diesel is experiencing reduced engine power, rough running, jerking during acceleration, a loud hissing sound, and increased fuel consumption. The suspected cause is the intake manifold flap control, which aligns with similar issues experienced by others. The problem was confirmed to be the intake manifold flap motor, and after replacement, the vehicle returned to smooth operation.

Interesting. When yours had that issue, were you getting any engine light warnings? And did you notice increased fuel consumption?

Yeah, the engine light came on eventually. And definitely saw a spike in fuel consumption. It sounds like exactly what I experienced. If it’s hissing and you’re losing power, I'd strongly suspect the intake manifold flap control. I'd suggest getting it checked by a workshop. They'll be able to confirm with diagnostics.

Turned out to be the intake manifold flap motor as I thought. Cost 465€, but the Altea is running smoothly again.

I had a similar issue with my Altea! Reduced power, engine misfire, the whole thing. Have you checked the airflow control system? Specifically, look for any hissing sounds near the intake manifold when you accelerate. That's a classic sign of a leak.
