Thanks for the reply! Where exactly is the brake switch located? And is there a specific type of diagnostic tool I should be using? I've got a basic OBD2 scanner, but I'm not sure if it's capable of reading the relevant codes for the parking brake system.

The brake switch is usually located near the brake pedal assembly. Regarding the diagnostic tool, a basic OBD2 scanner might not be sufficient to read the specific codes related to the parking brake system. A more advanced tool, capable of performing brake diagnostics, is recommended. Given the symptoms and your research, the electric motor in the brake calliper seems like a likely culprit. If you're not comfortable working on the braking system yourself, I would advise taking it to a workshop.

I wanted to let you know. I took it to a garage and you were spot on. They ran brake diagnostics and confirmed the electric motor in the calliper was faulty. Cost 505€ to get it sorted. Thanks again for your help!

That sounds like a frustrating situation. Have you checked the brake switch? A faulty switch can sometimes cause a system glitch and trigger the parking brake error. Also, have you had the error codes read with a proper diagnostic tool? Knowing the specific code could help narrow down the problem. Perhaps a simple reset might resolve a temporary issue.
