Seat Altea Engine Trouble
Summary of the thread
A 2012 Seat Altea with a gasoline engine was experiencing issues where the engine sometimes wouldn't start, or it would start but then shut off randomly, often running rough before doing so. The initial suspicion was a faulty ignition switch, but it was suggested to check the fuses related to the ignition coil and starter motor. Upon inspection, a blown fuse was found and replaced, resolving the engine trouble and restoring normal function.

Interesting. Which fuse exactly was it? And did you also experience rough engine running before it completely shut off? I've also noticed that the engine start seems weaker than usual before it stalls. Just trying to narrow down the possibilities before I start messing with the car electronics too much.

Yeah, the rough running sounds like what I had too. The exact fuse, I can't recall the number, but it was definitely in the fuse box under the steering wheel, related to the engine start system. Honestly, if you're not super comfortable with car electronics, I'd suggest getting it checked by a workshop. Could save you a lot of time and potential further damage.

It was indeed the fuse! I checked the car electronics fuse box again, and there it was, blown. Replaced it, and the Altea roared back to life. Cost me 52€ for the fuse and a bit of peace of mind. Thanks for the heads-up; you saved me a lot of headaches!

ALTEA

Whoa, that sounds eerily familiar! I had a similar problem with my Altea. The engine would just randomly die on me. It was super frustrating, especially at traffic lights. Did you check the fuses related to the ignition coil and starter motor? I'm no expert, but it's worth a shot before you start tearing things apart. Maybe also try jiggling the key in the ignition switch to see if that makes any difference.
