Seat Altea heavy steering issue

I'm experiencing some issues with my 2005 Seat Altea, diesel engine. The steering feels heavy at times, almost like the power steering is failing. The steering wheel also vibrates sometimes. I suspect a faulty steering angle sensor, possibly due to incorrect coding.

Sounds familiar! I had a similar problem with my Altea's steering. By 'increased effort', do you mean it feels much harder to turn the wheel sometimes? It could be the steering sensor, or even alignment problems. Is the ESP light on?

Yes, the increased effort is intermittent. And yes, the ESP light is indeed illuminated. Could you elaborate on the 'alignment problems' you mentioned? Is that related to the steering sensor failure?

Okay, the ESP light confirms it even more. I'm no expert, but based on my experience, the alignment can affect how the steering sensor reads the wheel's position. This could be sensor failure. Get it checked at the workshop. They will probably do a wheel alignment after steering sensor replacement. Hope this helps!

I appreciate your help. It turned out to be a faulty steering angle sensor. After sensor replacement and wheel alignment, everything is back to normal. The final bill was 195€.
