Seat Altea Overheating Bypass Valve Error

Hi, I've got a 2006 Seat Altea with a gasoline engine, currently sitting at 109066 km. I'm getting an error related to the bypass valve, and the engine is overheating. From what I've read, it seems like the bypass valve malfunction might be a consequential error, stemming from something else. Has anyone experienced something similar?

I had a similar issue with my Altea, though I can't remember the exact mileage. Engine overheating and a bypass valve error showing up. Have you checked for any coolant leaks? That could be the root cause. Also, give the air intake a good look over. Sometimes a blockage there can throw things off and cause the bypass valve to act up. How's your fuel efficiency been lately?

Thanks for the advice! Coolant leak is an interesting point, I'll definitely check that thoroughly. When you had the issue, did you notice any changes in the exhaust system's sound or smell? And what exactly should I be looking for in the air intake – obvious blockages or something more subtle?

Yeah, the coolant leak was the primary culprit in my case. It wasn't massive, but enough to cause the engine to overheat, which then triggered the bypass valve error. Regarding the exhaust, I didn't notice any significant changes in sound or smell. As for the air intake, check for leaves, debris, or anything that could restrict airflow. If you're not comfortable doing it yourself, I'd recommend taking it to a trusted mechanic for a proper diagnosis. It's better to be safe than sorry when it comes to engine overheating.

The issue is resolved. The bypass valve error was a consequence of a coolant leak I had missed. No cost to repair the valve itself, thankfully! Thanks for your help.
