Seat Altea rear window heating not working

I'm having a really annoying issue with my 2006 Seat Altea (gasoline engine). The rear window heating, the rear defroster, isn't working at all! The mileage is 110348 km. I scanned it and there's an error stored in the error memory, and the windshield heating isn't working as well as it used to. Could a heavily discharged or defective battery really be the cause?

The rear window demister issue with your Seat Altea sounds familiar. I had a similar problem with my older Volvo. Have you checked the battery's condition? A weak battery can cause all sorts of electrical gremlins. Does the error memory specify anything beyond a general error?

Thanks for the quick reply! I haven't checked the battery myself, to be honest. I saw the error code with my OBD reader but didn't think about the battery. Is there a specific way to check the battery, or should I just replace it?

Yes, a weak battery can definitely cause these issues. Considering the symptoms and error code, it's highly probable. The heating coil requires a lot of power. I would recommend having the battery professionally tested. If it's failing, replacing it is the best course of action. If replacing the battery doesn't solve the issue, then you will need to go to a workshop.

Took it to the shop, and they said the battery was pretty much dead. New battery and now the rear defroster and windshield heating work perfectly! Cost me 290€, but at least it's fixed. Thanks for your help!
