Thanks for the reply. I haven't checked the transfer fluid level myself, to be honest. I'm not entirely sure where the transfer case is located on this model. Where is it usually located, and is checking the fluid something I could do myself without special tools?

Okay, if you're not comfortable checking the fluid yourself, it's best to leave it to a professional. Based on what you're describing and the mileage, a defective transfer case is a strong possibility. My Insignia ended up needing a full transfer case replacement. Given the symptoms, I recommend taking it to a reputable workshop for a proper diagnosis and potential repair. They can confirm the oil wear and check those gears.

Just wanted to let you know I took your advice and brought it in. You were spot on! The workshop confirmed the oil wear fault in the transfer case. Defective gears were indeed the likely culprit. The transfer fluid was pretty contaminated. Cost me 330€ for the repair, but now it shifts smoothly again. Thanks a bunch for your help!

Slipping gears on a 2021 Arona isn't good news, especially at that mileage. I had a similar issue on my old Vauxhall Insignia, though it was a different gearbox entirely. Have you checked the transfer fluid level? Low or contaminated transfer fluid can definitely cause shifting problems. An oil change might be a good first step.
