Seat Arosa generator issues

Right, I'm in a bit of a pickle with my 2000 Seat Arosa gasoline engine. I think the generator is gone. Getting seriously reduced engine power, the battery warning light is constantly mocking me, and she's starting worse than a grumpy old man on a Monday morning. Plus, the lights are flickering like a disco, and the error memory is full of nasty surprises. Think it's a defective generator, especially with those engine misfires happening sometimes. Anyone had similar issues? I'm bracing myself for a hefty bill...

Summary of the thread

The 2000 Seat Arosa is experiencing reduced engine power, a persistent battery warning light, flickering lights, and engine misfires, suggesting a defective generator. The issue could also be related to the serpentine belt tension, which might cause the generator to underperform. It is recommended to have the vehicle checked professionally to confirm the generator's condition and avoid further complications. Ultimately, the generator was replaced, resolving the issues.

Whoa, sounds rough! I had similar shenanigans with my Seat Ibiza. Reduced power and the battery light were the giveaway. First thought was battery, but it kept happening. Did you check the tension of the serpentine belt? Sometimes a loose belt causes the generator to underperform.

Serpentine belt tension? I didn't even think of that! How would I check that exactly? Is it something I can do myself, or am I better off just taking it to a garage?

Yeah, best get it checked professionally. It could be the belt, but with all those symptoms and the error codes, it's pointing towards a goner generator. If the serpentine belt snaps it can cause serious problems with the car electronics, and if the starter motor isn't getting enough juice, that could also explain why your battery is low. A new generator is pricey, but better than getting stranded. Good luck!

Just wanted to let you know. Took her to the shop as you suggested, and you were spot on! The generator was indeed cactus. Ouch, 960€ later, but at least she's purring like a kitten again. Thanks for the help!
