Seat Arosa security alarm malfunction

Alright, gearheads, I've got a head-scratcher. My 2002 Seat Arosa, gasoline engine, with 121461 km on the clock, has a dead security alarm. Error's stored in the error memory, but the whole system's just kaput. My gut feeling is it’s probably some weird coding thing. I heard something about the alarm being coded to activate the optical locking (indicators). Could that be the culprit Any thoughts

Summary of the thread

A 2002 Seat Arosa's security alarm system was malfunctioning, with the error stored in the error memory, and the system was non-functional. The issue was suspected to be related to the alarm being coded to activate the optical locking (indicators). It was suggested that this could be a coding issue rather than a mechanical one, and a garage with diagnostic tools could recode the alarm. The problem was resolved by recoding the alarm, confirming the initial suspicion.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Sounds like a coding issue. Does the car start ok? If the immobilizer was acting up, it wouldn't. The battery being low can sometimes cause weird electrical gremlins, but that's usually more dash lights and starting problems. Have you checked the error codes with a diagnostic tool

Yeah, the car starts fine. No immobilizer issues, I think. It's just the security alarm that's completely dead. I have checked the error memory, and it stores an error related to the alarm system. So, if it's coded to the indicators, is that something a regular garage can fix, or am I looking at a specialist

Optical locking activation does indeed sound like the issue given the symptoms. It can cause the alarm module to malfunction. Any decent garage with diagnostic tools should be able to recode the alarm. It's not a mechanical issue, more like a software glitch. Think of it like a software installation gone wrong on your phone

You nailed it The garage said the alarm was coded to the indicators, like you thought. Recoded it, and it's sorted. Cost me 45€. Thanks a bunch for your help
