Seat Arosa starting issue

I am experiencing some really weird issues with my 2001 Seat Arosa (gasoline engine) and I'm hoping someone can help me out. It has 173216 km on the clock. The main problem is that sometimes the engine just won't start. Also, there's an error stored in the error memory, the gear selection display in the speedometer isn't working, and the cruise control is completely dead. I suspect a faulty clutch pedal switch as the possible cause. I read somewhere that the cable or plug connection could be defective, causing all these problems. I'm starting to think that this has something to do with some kind of safety mechanism, or an electrical fault linked to the gear selector. I really appreciate any help you can provide!

Sounds like a faulty clutch switch to me! I had a similar problem with my Arosa. The symptoms you describe are spot on. Cruise control and the car just refusing to start sometimes... argh! Has the same feeling when you have a dodgy light switch at home. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Really annoying!

Thanks for the quick reply! Could you elaborate a bit more? Where exactly is that switch located, and is it something I could potentially check myself before taking it to a workshop? Any tips for troubleshooting?

Yep, it was definitely the clutch switch. It's a common problem, I'm told. I wouldn't try fixing it yourself unless you really know what you're doing. Better to get it checked out by a professional. Seriously, it's not worth messing with, as it can become a real safety issue, just take it to the workshop!

Thank you so much for your help! It turned out to be exactly what you said. The workshop confirmed it was the clutch pedal switch, and after replacing it (cost me around 95€), everything is working fine again. Finally!
