Seat Ateca Diesel ECU Issues

Thanks for the quick response! I did check the battery voltage, which seems fine. However, the main relays are something I haven't looked into yet. Could a defective relay really cause such significant ECU problems and reduced engine performance? Is there a way to test the relays, or should I just replace them as a precaution?

Absolutely! A failing main relay can definitely wreak havoc. The ECU relies on a stable and consistent power supply. If the relay is cutting out intermittently, or providing insufficient voltage, it can cause all sorts of erratic behavior, including triggering error codes and impacting engine performance. It is like the brain not getting enough energy! You can test relays with a multimeter to check for continuity and voltage drop, but honestly, for the cost of a new relay, it might be worth just replacing it, especially given the symptoms you are describing. However, I would suggest visiting a workshop before replacing the ECU to rule out other potential causes.

Following the advice, I took my Ateca to a trusted workshop. Turns out, the main relay was indeed defective, causing the ECU problems. They replaced it, and the engine performance is back to normal. The repair cost me 120€. Thanks for your help!

Reduced engine power and error codes pointing to the ECU? That sounds nasty! I've heard of similar ECU problems on the Ateca, particularly with earlier models. Before you panic about a complete ECU replacement, which can be seriously expensive, have you checked the basics? Things like battery voltage and the condition of the main relays that supply power to the ECU are often overlooked. A faulty relay can cause all sorts of weird intermittent issues. It's definitely worth investigating as a first step. What error codes are you seeing specifically?
