Where is the voltage regulator, and how hard is it to test? I don't know much about car electrics.

The voltage regulator is usually part of the alternator. You need special equipment to test it, so I'd recommend taking it to a workshop. Considering all the electrical malfunctions and error messages, it's probably best to have a professional check it to prevent further damage to the circuit protection.

It was the car battery! I replaced it, and all the errors disappeared. It set me back 290€, but at least it's sorted. Thanks for the input!

I also drive an Ateca and had similar electrical problems. I got a lot of fault codes because of a power surge, and the car battery seemed weak. Have you checked the voltage regulator? If it's faulty, it could cause high voltage and damage the car battery.
