Seat Ateca Tailgate Hall Sensor Fault

I am writing to report an issue with my Seat Ateca, built in 2016, which is equipped with a gasoline engine. The vehicle has a hall sensor fault in the tailgate, which does not open completely. Error memory indicates a fault related to the tailgate hall sensor. Preliminary diagnostics suggest that the likely cause is a defective cable or plug connection to the component. Has anyone encountered this issue previously, and what solutions can you recommend?

I had a similar issue with my Ateca. It sounds like a faulty hall sensor indeed. Have you checked the wiring harness that goes to the tailgate? Sometimes, the wires can get damaged from repeated opening and closing. Also, did you perform a sensor calibration?

Thanks for the quick response. Can you elaborate on the sensor calibration you mentioned? Is that something I can do myself, or does it require specialized equipment?

Regarding the sensor calibration, it usually requires diagnostic equipment. The workshop needs to reset the sensor values so the tailgate motor knows the open and closed positions. If the wiring is damaged, calibrating the sensor may not solve the problem. I would recommend having a workshop take a look at it.

I took your advice and visited my local workshop. They confirmed the hall sensor fault and replaced the defective cable and plug. The tailgate now opens fully. The final bill was 95€. Thank you for your assistance.
