Seat Cordoba ABS and Traction Issues

I'm experiencing a rather frustrating issue with my 2006 Seat Cordoba, equipped with a diesel engine. The ABS lamp on the dashboard is illuminated, and I'm also encountering traction problems. It seems the ABS system is failing intermittently. I suspect it might be related to a defective control unit affecting the speed signal. Has anyone encountered something similar, or have any insights into troubleshooting this further?

Summary of the thread

A 2006 Seat Cordoba owner is experiencing issues with the ABS light being illuminated and traction problems, suspecting a defective control unit affecting the speed signal. Another person with a similar issue suggests checking the wheel speed sensors and running a diagnostic, which points to a speed signal fault. The problem is confirmed to be a faulty ECM, and replacing it resolves the ABS and traction issues.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

I had a similar issue with my Cordoba. The ABS light kept coming on, and I was getting some weird readings from the transmission. Have you checked the wheel speed sensors? Sometimes a faulty sensor can cause the ABS system to go haywire. Also, did you run any diagnostic codes to see what's triggering the light on the dashboard?

Thanks for the quick response! I did check the wheel speed sensors, and they seem to be functioning correctly. I also ran a diagnostic, and it's pointing towards a speed signal fault. Could you elaborate on the 'weird readings from the transmission' you experienced? Was it also related to the speed signal?

Yep, the weird readings were definitely related to the speed signal. The diagnostic pointed towards the ECM being the culprit. If the sensors are fine, and the diagnostic indicates a speed signal fault, then a defective control unit is the most likely cause. I'd suggest taking it to a workshop; they can confirm the diagnosis and replace the faulty unit. It's not a cheap fix, unfortunately.

Took it to the workshop as you suggested. The ECM was indeed faulty. After replacing it, the ABS light is gone, and the traction control is working perfectly again. Cost me around 1000€, but it's worth it to have the car running safely. Thanks for the help!
