Seat Cordoba Diesel Automatic Transmission Problems

My 2006 Seat Cordoba diesel is giving me grief. The automatic transmission is acting up with implausible shifting, the transmission indicator light is on, and it's generally not shifting as it should. Feels like emergency mode. Could worn transmission oil cause this? I'm thinking maybe a slipping transmission situation and a transmission flush might help, but I'm also worried it could be something more serious with the transmission itself.

Slipping transmission and weird shifting can be a headache. I had a similar issue with my old Volvo. Check your battery and charging system first. A weak battery can cause electrical gremlins that mess with the gearbox. Is the car struggling to start?

Interesting. I hadn't considered the battery. The car starts fine, but I suppose there could still be undervoltage. Did your Volvo throw any specific codes or was it just acting strangely?

Mine didn't throw any specific codes initially, just odd shifting and eventually going into limp mode. It was a gradual decline. The battery tested okay at first, but it was definitely the culprit. Best to get it checked properly, and if that's not it, then at least you've eliminated a potential cause. If the battery checks out, you'll probably need to visit a workshop.

Closing this out: the garage confirmed low voltage was causing the transmission issue. A new battery and transmission flush later, and it's shifting perfectly. Total cost was 240€. Thanks for the help pointing me in the right direction!
