Seat Cordoba LMM Defect Suspected
Summary of the thread
The 2000 Seat Cordoba is experiencing higher fuel consumption, engine stalling at idle, a check engine light, and smoke during acceleration, leading to the suspicion of a defective Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor. These symptoms suggest sensor failure, which can cause poor engine performance. Cleaning the sensor might offer a temporary fix, but replacing it is likely necessary for a long-term solution. Ultimately, the issue was confirmed at a workshop, and replacing the MAF sensor resolved the stalling problem.
Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Cleaning the sensor is something I haven't considered. What did you do exactly, and did it solve the engine stalling issue completely?

Yeah, cleaning it helped a bit temporarily on the Megane, but the engine stalling kept coming back. I used MAF sensor cleaner, sprayed it lightly, and let it dry completely before reinstalling. But honestly, it was a short-term fix. If your symptoms are that severe, I'd just bite the bullet and go to the workshop. Save yourself the headache.

Thanks for the input. I took it to the workshop, and it was indeed the LMM. Ended up costing me 365€, but at least the engine isn't stalling anymore.

Sounds like a MAF sensor failure to me. I had a similar issue with my old Renault Megane, though the smoke wasn't as bad. Have you tried checking the sensor's connection or cleaning it? Sometimes that can help, but if it's truly gone bad, you'll probably need a new one. Is the performance decline pretty noticeable?
