Seat Cordoba tire pressure ABS and steering issues

I am writing to seek advice regarding a troubling issue with my 2003 Seat Cordoba, which is equipped with a gasoline engine. The vehicle has 142984 km on the odometer. Recently, the tire pressure warning light illuminated on the dashboard. Simultaneously, the ABS lamp has also lit up, the steering wheel is vibrating, and I've noticed an increased effort required when steering, suggesting a possible power steering failure. I have visually inspected the tires for punctures, but found none. I suspect a potential issue with the tire monitoring system itself, or perhaps a more serious problem affecting the ABS and power steering systems. Any insights would be greatly appreciated.

That sounds similar to an issue I had with my Cordoba. The tire monitoring system can be quite sensitive. When the tire pressure drops even slightly below the recommended level, it can trigger the warning light. It's possible you have a slow air leak. Have you checked the tires for any punctures or damage? Also, the ABS light coming on could be related, as the system uses wheel speed sensors, which are also used in some tire pressure monitoring systems. The vibrating steering wheel and increased steering effort suggest a potential issue with the power steering pump or the system itself. But first, check your tire pressures and look for any signs of damage to the tires themselves.

Thank you for your reply! I appreciate the explanation of how the ABS and tire monitoring systems might be connected. I did check the tire pressures, and one tire was indeed lower than the others. I inflated it to the recommended pressure, but the warning light came back on after a short drive. I didn't notice any obvious punctures. Could a defective valve cause such a slow leak that it wouldn't be immediately obvious?

Yes, a defective valve could definitely cause a slow leak that's hard to detect visually. If inflating the tire only temporarily resolves the issue, and the light comes back on, that's a strong indicator of a leak somewhere. The valve is a common culprit. Given the ABS light and steering issues, it's best to have a professional diagnose the problem. They can perform a thorough inspection of the tires, valves, ABS sensors, and power steering system to pinpoint the exact cause.

I wanted to share the resolution to the tire pressure issue with my Cordoba. As you suggested, I visited a trusted workshop. It turned out the valve in one of the tires was defective, causing a slow air leak. They replaced the valve, re-inflated the tire, and recalibrated the tire monitoring system. The ABS light is now off, the steering wheel no longer vibrates, and the power steering is back to normal. The total cost was 280€. Thanks for your help!
