Seat Exeo Engine Issue

I've got a 2012 Seat Exeo with a gasoline engine and about 153916 km on the clock. Recently, the check engine light popped up, and I've noticed a drop in engine power, especially when accelerating. Also, there's some smoke coming out. A quick scan suggests it might be a crankcase ventilation valve malfunction. Anyone experienced something similar?

Sounds like a crankcase ventilation valve issue. I had something similar with my Exeo. Check engine light, loss of power, and even a bit of smoke. Is the smoke bluish? That's a classic sign. The valve can leak, causing all sorts of problems with the engine's air-fuel mixture. Have you checked for any obvious signs of a leak around the valve itself?

The smoke is kind of greyish. Where exactly is the crankcase ventilation valve located? And how did you confirm it was the valve that was faulty?

Greyish smoke could still point to the same issue. The crankcase ventilation valve is usually located on top of the engine, often near the intake manifold. Honestly, I didn't confirm it myself. I'm no mechanic! I just took it to a workshop, described the symptoms, and they diagnosed it pretty quickly. Given the symptoms you're describing, I'd say it's worth getting it checked professionally. It's a common enough issue that they should be able to diagnose without too much trouble. Ignoring it can lead to more serious engine problems down the line. Proper ventilation maintenance is key.

Thanks for the advice. I took it to the workshop, and you were spot on. The crankcase ventilation valve was indeed the culprit. Cost me around 360€ to get it sorted, but the car is running smoothly again.
