Seat Exeo Rain Light Sensor Fault

Alright, I'm officially stumped. My 2010 Seat Exeo with a diesel engine is throwing a rain-light sensor fault. I've got the error stored in the error memory, and the automatic wiping mode is completely dead. Plus, no automatic headlight control, no speedometer dimming, and the lights switch on randomly. Any ideas before I start tearing apart the dashboard searching for an electrical fault? Is it a sensor fault or something else?

Summary of the thread

A 2010 Seat Exeo was experiencing a rain-light sensor fault, leading to issues with automatic wiping, headlight control, speedometer dimming, and random light activation. The problem was identified as a faulty rain-light sensor, potentially caused by bubbles under the gel pad where the sensor contacts the windshield. The recommended solution was to have the sensor checked and replaced by a professional, which resolved the issues after calibration.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Whoa, sounds familiar! I had almost the exact same thing happen with my Exeo. The rain detection went haywire, and the headlights were doing their own thing. For me, it turned out to be a faulty rain-light sensor too. Did you check the windshield for any bubbles forming under the gel pad where the sensor sits? That's where the car components are installed, and that was my issue!

Bubbles under the gel pad, you say? I hadn't thought of that. Where exactly should I be looking, and is it something I can easily see myself?

Yep, bubbles! Think of it like when you put a screen protector on your phone and you get those annoying air bubbles trapped underneath. Same principle. It's usually pretty visible if you look closely at the area where the sensor makes contact with the windshield. Honestly, I wouldn't mess with it too much yourself. It's best to get it checked by someone who knows what they're doing, especially since it affects so many different systems. A new sensor and sensor calibration from a workshop should sort it out.

Took it to the workshop today, and it was indeed the rain-light sensor. They replaced it, and after calibration, everything is working perfectly again. Total cost was 62€. Thanks for the help!
