Seat Formentor diesel engine issue
Summary of the thread
The Seat Formentor diesel engine issue involved jerking during acceleration, a check engine light, reduced power, stalling at idle, rough running, and a strong exhaust smell. The problem was traced to a fault in the intake manifold, likely due to scorching and a resulting vacuum leak. This was confirmed by error codes and symptoms, and the solution was to replace the intake manifold, which resolved the issues.

Yeah, scanned it. Showed an error related to the intake manifold. Is it common for these manifolds to fail? And if it is a vacuum leak, would that explain the strong exhaust smell?

Intake manifold failures aren't unheard of, especially with the heat cycling they endure. Scorching and leaks are common culprits. And yes, a vacuum leak can definitely cause a rich running condition, hence the strong exhaust smell. Given the error code and symptoms, I'd say the intake manifold is the prime suspect. Best to get it checked by a workshop to confirm and get a proper repair.

As suspected, it was the intake manifold. Scorching caused a leak. Replacement cost 1180€. Runs smooth now, thanks.

Jerking, check engine light, and rough running on a diesel often points to air/fuel mixture issues. Have you scanned the error codes? A faulty manifold sensor or a vacuum leak in the intake manifold could definitely cause those symptoms. A leaking car manifold will lead to rough engine running and stalling at idle. Check the intake manifold for any signs of damage or leaks first.
