Seat Formentor Engine Troubles

My Seat Formentor, build year is and it has a gasoline engine, is playing up big time! Got about 58k km on the clock and the check engine light is on. Fuel consumption's gone through the roof, idles like a tractor, and puffs out smoke when I put my foot down. Feels like a proper performance decline. Reckon it's the mass air flow meter LMM? Sensor failure maybe?

Sounds very familiar! I had similar issues with my Formentor. Same symptoms: higher fuel consumption, rough idling, and that dreaded check engine light. The performance decline was driving me nuts. Have you checked the air intake for any obstructions or damage? The mass air flow sensor is quite sensitive, and any disruption to the airflow can throw it off. It's a common sensor failure on these engines, apparently.

Cheers for the reply! Air intake seems fine at first glance. You reckon it's defo the LMM then? How did you diagnose yours?

Pretty certain it sounds like the LMM. I initially tried cleaning the sensor, but that only provided a temporary fix. The diagnostic codes pointed directly to it, confirming the mass air flow sensor was faulty. I ended up biting the bullet and replacing it. If you don't have the equipment to diagnose it properly, I'd suggest taking it to a workshop. They can confirm it with a scan and save you the hassle of guessing.

Huge thanks for the heads-up! The workshop confirmed it. LMM was shot. 365€ lighter, but at least she's running smooth again. What a relief!
