Seat Formentor Hybrid Gearbox Issues

Okay, so I'm seriously freaking out here. My 2023 Seat Formentor hybrid is playing up big time! Got like 104600 km on the clock. The gear selection display is totally dead, and I can't even engage the gears properly. It's like the gearbox is slipping or something, and sometimes I hear these awful grinding noises when it finally decides to shift. Plus, the error memory is showing some fault. The mechanics are talking about a defective control unit and a 1000€ bill. Has anyone else had this happen? Could it be something simple like a sensor problem?

Summary of the thread

A 2023 Seat Formentor hybrid with 104,600 km is experiencing gearbox issues, including a dead gear selection display, improper gear engagement, and grinding noises. The problem is suspected to be a defective control unit, which is confirmed by a mechanic and results in a 1000€ repair cost. The control unit, responsible for managing gear shifts, was replaced, resolving the issues and restoring normal function to the vehicle.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Sounds like you're having a similar issue to what I had with my Formentor. The gear indicator going nuts is a classic sign. Is the shift knob also acting weird? I'd bet it's an automotive electronics thing, maybe a sensor problem messing with the gear indicator. If it is what I think it is, it might be the control unit.

Control unit, huh? What exactly does that do? And how did you figure out that was the problem? Was it hard to fix? Just trying to get a handle on what I might be facing here. And you also mentioned the shift knob. What kind of weirdness are we talking about?

The control unit is basically the brain for your transmission. It tells the gearbox when to shift and all that jazz. My shift knob would sometimes get stuck, or feel like it was in the wrong gear. Honestly, I'm no expert, but all the symptoms you described sound exactly like what I went through. I tried looking for a sensor problem, but I had to take it to the workshop. They ran diagnostics and confirmed it was the control unit. You're probably looking at the same thing.

Dude, you were spot on! Took it to the shop, and it WAS the control unit. They replaced it, and now the gears are shifting smooth as butter. Cost me 1000€, just like you said, but honestly, it's worth it to have my Formentor back to normal. Thanks a ton for the heads-up! Really saved me a bunch of stress!
