Seat Formentor Hybrid Oil Pressure Warning

I'm stressed. My 2022 Seat Formentor hybrid, with almost 130000km on the clock, is showing the oil pressure warning lamp. And there are some loud mechanical noises coming from the engine. Could it be the oil pump?

Low oil pressure on a hybrid Formentor? That's not good. First thing, double-check your engine oil level. A slight drop can trigger the warning, especially on newer cars with sensitive sensors. Also, when was the last time you changed your engine oil and oil filter? A clogged oil filter can restrict oil flow and cause low pressure. What's the oil viscosity you're currently using? Using the wrong viscosity grade can also lead to pressure issues, especially at high temperatures. Do you have an oil pressure gauge fitted? If so, what readings are you getting at idle and higher RPMs?

Oil level is fine, checked that straight away. Service was about 10000km ago, but could the oil filter clogged up that quick? How can I check the oil viscosity? I don't have any oil pressure gauge fitted.

It's unlikely but not impossible for the oil filter to clog up that quickly, especially if you've been driving in dusty conditions or using low-quality oil. Checking the oil viscosity involves looking at the specifications on your oil bottle or consulting your car's manual for the recommended grade. Without an oil pressure gauge, it's hard to diagnose accurately. Considering the symptoms – the warning lamp and the noises – and the mileage, it really does sound like it could be the oil pump. I had a similar issue with my Formentor, turned out to be faulty engine bearings, caused by low oil pressure. I would strongly advise getting it checked out by a workshop ASAP. Continuing to drive it could cause serious engine damage.

Cheers for the help! Took it to the shop and you were spot on, oil pump was knackered. Cost me 755€ to get it sorted. Lesson learned!
