Seat Formentor immobilizer problem

I'm having a head-scratcher with my 2021 Seat Formentor diesel. It's developed an immobilizer problem. Sometimes the engine won't start at all, and other times it starts briefly then dies. Of course, there's an error stored in the memory. Could it be a simple case of incorrect key programming?

Summary of the thread

A 2021 Seat Formentor diesel experienced an immobilizer problem, causing intermittent starting issues. The problem was suspected to be related to incorrect key programming, affecting the anti-theft system's ability to recognize the key signal. The solution involved reprogramming the key, which resolved the issue.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Sounds like a potential immobilizer fault. I had similar issues with my Formentor; any chance it's related to the anti-theft system recognizing the key signal? Does the error memory indicate anything specific about ignition control?

Interesting, when you say 'similar issues', was yours also intermittent starting? Did your error message point directly to the immobilizer, or was it more vague?

Yes, mine was intermittent. The error message pointed towards a key recognition issue. It's probably best to take it to a workshop to have the key reprogrammed rather than trying an immobilizer bypass.

Turns out the key just needed re-programming as you suggested. 45€ later and it's all sorted. Thanks for the input!
