Seat Formentor rain light sensor fault

Alright, I'm officially stumped. My 2023 Seat Formentor with a diesel engine is throwing a rain-light sensor fault. I'm getting an error in the memory, no automatic wiping in the rain, headlights stay on, and the speedometer dimming isn't working. The car has 116725 km. From what I've read, it could be bubbles forming under the gel pad of the windshield affecting the rain detection and electrical fault. Any ideas before I start tearing things apart?

Sounds like a faulty rain sensor. I had a similar issue with my Formentor. The rain sensor also controls the automatic headlights and speedometer dimming, so that all lines up. Have you checked the sensor itself?

Checked as much as I could without ripping things apart. Where exactly was the issue with yours? Was it visibly damaged, or did the workshop diagnose it?

Mine wasn't visibly damaged. The workshop told me the gel pad between the sensor and the windshield had bubbles, messing with the light refraction. This affects how the sensor detects rain. They replaced the gel pad. You might want to get it checked by a professional.

Just wanted to close the loop. Took it to the shop, and you were spot on! They replaced the rain sensor gel pad due to bubbles. Cost me 62€, but everything's working perfectly again. Huge thanks for the advice!
