Seat Ibiza Automatic Transmission Problem

I am writing to report a concerning issue with my 2005 Seat Ibiza, equipped with a diesel engine. The automatic transmission appears to have a defect related to the parking position. Specifically, the engine fails to start, and the check engine light illuminates. Furthermore, I have observed instances of the gearbox slipping or shifting in an unclean manner. An error is also stored in the error memory. Initial assessments suggest a defective control unit is the likely culprit. I am anticipating a repair cost in the vicinity of 1000€.

I had a similar problem with my Ibiza. Check the transmission sensor. A faulty sensor can cause the gearbox to slip and trigger the check engine light. It might also prevent the engine from starting if the system thinks it's not in neutral or park. Is the gear linkage operating smoothly?

Interesting. Could you elaborate on the 'transmission sensor'? Where is it located, and is it something that can be inspected visually?

The transmission sensor, also known as a transmission speed sensor, monitors the speed of the internal components of your transmission. It's usually located on the transmission housing. Visually, you might see a wire harness connected to it. But I recommend you go to a workshop for a diagnosis. If the control unit is defective, transmission repair is unavoidable.

The workshop confirmed a defective control unit within the automatic transmission. The repair, including parts and labor, came to 1000€. Now the Ibiza is shifting smoothly again.
