Seat Ibiza Diesel Start Stop Problem

I'm having a strange issue with my 2001 Seat Ibiza diesel. The start-stop system has stopped working. The engine shuts off as it should, and the warning light comes on in the speedometer, but I'm getting an error stored in the error memory. I suspect it might be a heavily discharged or defective car battery. Has anyone experienced anything similar? Any advice?

That's a weird one. I had a similar problem with my Renault Clio a while back. The idle stop wasn't working, and there was some error light on the dash. Could it be related to the car battery? Maybe it's not holding enough charge to allow the automatic restart to function properly? I am just guessing though, I am no mechanic.

Interesting. So, with your Clio, was it definitely the car battery causing the issue? Did you have any other symptoms besides the start-stop not working? I'm just trying to rule out other possibilities before I take it to a workshop.

Yes, for me it ended up being a faulty car battery. The mechanic told me that modern cars, especially hybrid vehicles or ones with Eco mode, are very sensitive to battery voltage. If the battery isn't in top condition, the start-stop is often the first thing to go. I would get it checked out by a professional. It might save you some headaches trying to diagnose it yourself.

Took the Ibiza to the shop and they confirmed it was the car battery. It was so discharged that it was causing the start-stop to malfunction. New car battery fitted, cost me 290€, and now the eco mode is working perfectly again. Thanks for your help!
