Seat Ibiza Electronic Handbrake Failure

I'm pulling my hair out here. My 2003 Seat Ibiza with a gasoline engine is giving me grief. The electronic handbrake is completely dead. It's showing 180978 km. I've got the dreaded warning light on the speedometer, and the error memory is screaming. Has anyone else experienced this brake failure? It's a serious safety concern!

Sounds like a pain! I had a similar issue with my old Renault Megane. The electronic parking brake went haywire. Did you check the error codes? Mine threw a bunch of them related to the brake control module. I was bricking it thinking about vehicle safety at the time.

Yes, it's showing an error in the error memory and the warning light is constantly on. The mechanic suspects the electric motor in the brake calliper is defective. Was that the case with your Megane as well? How much did it cost?

Yep, same diagnosis: dodgy electric motor in the calliper. I didn't bother messing around myself and took it to a workshop. Cost me a pretty penny. So, yeah, sounds like you're headed for a repair shop visit.

Thanks for sharing your experience! The shop confirmed it: defective electric motor in the brake calliper. Repair quoted at 505€. Ouch! At least it's getting fixed and my Ibiza will be safe again. Appreciate the help!
