Seat Ibiza engine stalls fuel level sensor fault

Help! My 2020 Seat Ibiza with a gasoline engine is giving me headaches. The check engine light on the car dashboard is on, and the engine stalls sometimes, especially at idle. The error memory shows something about a fuel level sensor fault. Mileage is at 70429 km. Had a similar issue?

Summary of the thread

A 2020 Seat Ibiza with a gasoline engine is experiencing engine stalling and a check engine light, with an error indicating a fuel level sensor fault. The issue may be related to a defective fuse in the fuel system, which can cause inaccurate fuel level readings and engine stalling. It is suggested to check the relevant fuses, but if unfamiliar with car electrics, consulting a qualified automotive technician is recommended to accurately diagnose and resolve the issue. The problem was resolved by replacing a defective fuse.

The symptoms you describe do align with a potential fault in the fuel level sensor circuit. My previous vehicle, not a Seat Ibiza specifically but another vehicle equipped with a similar fuel system, exhibited comparable behavior when the fuel gauge displayed erratic readings, and subsequently, the engine stalled due to an inaccurate fuel level assessment. Have you checked the relevant fuses in the fuse box? Consult your owner's manual for the specific location of the fuel system fuse. A defective fuse can indeed trigger the check engine light and store an error code related to the car sensor.

Thanks for the advice! I'm not very familiar with car electrics. I'll check the fuses tomorrow, but could you tell me exactly which fuse I should be looking for? Is there usually only one fuse for the whole fuel system?

Given your limited experience, I would strongly advise against attempting any complex electrical work yourself. The presence of a stored error code associated with the fuel level sensor suggests a more specialized diagnostic approach is warranted. While a fuse is a plausible cause, the issue could stem from a faulty car sensor itself, damaged wiring, or even a malfunctioning fuel pump relay. Considering the potential risks, I recommend consulting a qualified automotive technician. They possess the necessary diagnostic tools and expertise to accurately pinpoint the root cause of the fuel system problem and implement the appropriate solution. It is usually one fuse, but without your manual I cannot guarantee it.

Seat Ibiza's fuel system is now working. It was indeed a defective fuse, like you suspected. The car dashboard seems to be working fine now. The total repair cost for the new fuse was 52€. Thanks a lot for your help!
