Seat Ibiza oxygen sensor heater error

My 2002 Seat Ibiza with a diesel engine is playing up. Check engine light is on, and it's showing an oxygen sensor heater error. Also, I'm getting through fuel like crazy. The error memory is storing the fault. I'm guessing it's the cable or plug. Anyone had this before?

Sounds familiar. I had a similar problem with my Ibiza. The malfunction indicator was on and fuel consumption was definitely up. Have you checked the wiring to the oxygen sensor in the exhaust system? That's where the issue was with mine car components.

Yeah, I had a quick look at the plug, but didn't see anything obvious. Was it easy to spot the problem, or did you need to do some proper diagnostics?

To be honest, I couldn't figure it out myself. The heater element is part of the exhaust system, so it gets a battering. I took it to a workshop in the end. They said the plug was corroded. They cleaned the contacts, but in your case, it might be worth getting it checked out professionally, especially since it affects vehicle emissions.

Right, got it sorted. Turned out to be a dodgy connection like you said. 95€ all in. Cheers for the advice!
