Seat Ibiza power loss after chip tuning
Summary of the thread
A Seat Ibiza, built in 2000 with a gasoline engine, experienced a significant power loss and an illuminated check engine light after chip tuning by a third-party provider. The issue was suspected to be related to the aftermarket chip interfering with the car's computer system. A local mechanic confirmed the problem was indeed due to the chip tuning and resolved it by reflashing the ECU with the original software, restoring the engine's power and turning off the check engine light.
Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Thank you for your reply. The fault code isn't very specific, unfortunately. It just indicates a general engine fault. The mechanic seemed to think it's likely related to the chip tuning messing with the car computer. Is this what you experienced as well?

Yes, that sounds exactly like what happened to me. The generic fault code makes it difficult to pinpoint the exact problem. Given that your Ibiza has aftermarket chip tuning, I strongly recommend taking it to a workshop that specializes in this. They should be able to diagnose whether the chip is the root cause and re-flash the ECU if necessary.

I followed the advice and went to a local mechanic familiar with chip tuning. They confirmed the issue was related to the aftermarket chip. They reflashed the ECU with the original software and it seems to have solved the problem. The check engine light is now off, and the power is back to normal. Cost me 180€, but it was worth it to get it sorted properly. Thanks a lot for your help!

That sounds familiar. I had a similar issue with my Seat Leon, though I'm not sure if it's the same engine. I suspect it could be the chip tuning, as you mentioned. Does the fault code indicate anything specific about the engine management system or fuel mixture?
