Seat Ibiza steering problem

My 2004 Seat Ibiza with a gasoline engine is giving me some trouble. The steering wheel vibrates, the handling feels spongy, and there's an error stored. Steering requires more effort. I suspect it's a bad connection somewhere. Any ideas?

I had similar issues with my Ibiza. Have you checked the hydraulic fluid level? A low level could cause the steering wheel to vibrate. It also felt a bit spongy when cornering.

Fluid level seems okay. My Ibiza has electric steering, not hydraulic. Is your Ibiza maybe older? Could a bad wheel alignment cause these vibrations? It gets quite shaky at higher speeds.

Ah, mine doesn't have electric steering, you are right. A bad wheel alignment could contribute. Maybe best to get it checked at a workshop though, especially with that error stored.

It turned out to be a faulty cable connection to the power steering unit. The workshop charged me 95€ to fix it. Thanks for the help!
