Seat Ibiza VANOS Issue

My Seat Ibiza, build year , with a gasoline engine is exhibiting symptoms indicative of a potential inlet VANOS mechanics fault. The check engine light is illuminated, and I've observed a noticeable increase in fuel consumption. Based on preliminary diagnostics, a defect in one of the camshaft solenoid valves or a power supply interruption is suspected.

I had a similar issue with my Ibiza. Check engine light and higher fuel consumption sound familiar. It could be related to the variable timing system. Have you checked the timing chain for wear or damage?

When you say variable timing system, are you referring to the VANOS unit? Did you experience engine misfire as well?

Yes, I meant the VANOS, or variable valve timing system. I did have occasional engine misfires too. Given your diagnostic findings pointing to the solenoid valves, it's very likely the culprit. I'd recommend taking it to a workshop for confirmation and repair. It might save you time and potential headaches. The cost you mentioned sounds about right.

Replacing the camshaft solenoid valves resolved the issue. Thanks for the input.
