Seat Inca Diesel Engine Power Loss and Smoke
Summary of the thread
A 2001 Seat Inca diesel experienced reduced engine power, a warning light on the speedometer, smoke during acceleration, and a strong exhaust smell. The issue was linked to a 'diesel particulate filter exhaust pressure too low' error, suggesting a possible defective exhaust back pressure sensor. After replacing the sensor, the warning lights were resolved, indicating the sensor was indeed the cause of the problem.

DPF regeneration... I am not sure I have noticed that specifically. How would I tell? The smoke is more grey than black, I think.

Greyish smoke points more towards incomplete combustion, which could be linked to a faulty sensor messing with the fuel mixture. Since you are unsure about the DPF regeneration cycles, it is tricky to pinpoint the exact problem remotely. It might be best to get it checked by a professional to confirm the exhaust back pressure sensor is the culprit and avoid further damage to the emission control system.

It was the exhaust back pressure sensor. A new one is fitted and all warning lights are gone. It cost me 245€.

Low DPF exhaust pressure on a diesel Inca is not ideal. Given the smoke and power loss, it sounds like a sensor issue. Have you noticed if the engine tries to do a DPF regeneration more often than usual? Is the smoke black or more of a greyish color?
