Seat Inca exhaust flap issue

I've got a 2001 Seat Inca, gasoline engine. Lately, the exhaust noise has been louder than usual, and the engine sounds a bit rougher after a cold start. Plugged it into a diagnostic tool, and it's showing an error related to the exhaust flaps. I'm guessing the exhaust flap is defective. Has anyone else had this issue?

Sounds familiar. I had a similar issue with my Inca, though it was a while back. Loud exhaust noise and an error code. Have you checked the flap actuator? That was the culprit in my case. Could be an exhaust blockage too, but the actuator is more likely.

Where exactly is the flap actuator located? And how did you determine it was the actuator and not something else in the exhaust system?

The flap actuator is part of the exhaust system, near the exhaust flaps themselves. From my experience with similar issues, if the exhaust flaps aren't opening or closing properly, it messes with the engine's backpressure, especially on startup. Because there was exhaust noise it was more likely the exhaust flaps than a general exhaust blockage. I'd suggest taking it to a workshop to confirm.

Just to let you know, the local garage confirmed the exhaust flap was defective. A new flap actuator and fitting cost 190€. The exhaust noise is back to normal. Thanks for the help!
