Seat Inca parking assist fault

Hoping someone can offer some guidance. My 2002 Seat Inca with a gasoline engine has developed a fault with the parking assistant. It's completely non-functional, and the error memory shows a fault. I've done some digging, and it seems the likely cause is a defective cable or plug connection to one of the components. I understand that the parking aid system uses ultrasonic sensors for obstacle detection, but I'm not sure where to start looking for faulty wiring. I'm aware that some cars also use blind spot sensors or even a rearview camera as part of the parking system, but I don't think my Inca has those features. I'm trying to avoid a huge bill, as the estimated repair cost is around 95€. Any tips on troubleshooting this issue would be greatly appreciated.

I had something similar happen on my Inca, although I can't remember the exact error code. Have you checked the ultrasonic sensors themselves? Sometimes they get dirty or damaged, which can cause the system to throw a fault. It might be worth a quick look before you start chasing wiring.

Thanks for the quick reply! When you say 'ultrasonic sensors', are those the same as the parking sensors? Also, where are they located exactly? I've had a quick look but couldn't immediately spot them. And when you talk about damage, what kind of damage am I looking for?

Yes, ultrasonic sensors are the same as parking sensors. They are usually located in the bumper, front and rear. Just check for any obvious signs of damage like cracks or if they are loose. In my case, the issue was more complex and related to faulty wiring. If you can't find anything obvious, it's probably best to get it checked out at a workshop.

Took it to a local garage, and you were spot on faulty wiring to one of the ultrasonic sensors. They rewired it, cleared the error code, and everything's working perfectly now. Cost me 95€ as predicted. Thanks for the advice!
