Seat Leon Diesel Glow Plug Problem

I'm experiencing a rather annoying issue with my 2002 Seat Leon diesel. The preheating lamp on the dashboard refuses to switch off, and I've confirmed there's an error stored in the error memory related to the glow plugs. Given the symptoms, I'm fairly certain a glow plug is defective, but I'm open to suggestions. The car has clocked 179711 km. Has anyone encountered this before? I am worried about engine combustion problems, and I'm trying to avoid a costly repair, if possible.

Sounds like a glow plug issue. I had something similar with my Leon. Check the glow plugs themselves. Could be a simple fix.

Interesting. How did you confirm it was the glow plugs? Did the engine light come on in your diesel car, and was there an error code stored?

Yep, engine light was on. Definitely glow plugs. If you're not comfortable doing it yourself, a workshop can sort it out pretty quickly. Don't ignore it though, especially with winter coming. Hard starts aren't fun for a diesel engine.

Thank you, that is good advice. I took it to the workshop and you were right, it was the glow plugs. They replaced them, but with labor and diagnostics, the whole thing cost me around 440€. At least the check engine light is off and hopefully I won't have any more issues with engine combustion this winter!
