Seat Leon transmission problem

I am experiencing transmission issues with my 2018 Seat Leon, gasoline engine. The engine warning light is illuminated, and an error is stored in the memory. Furthermore, the gearbox sometimes goes into emergency mode, and gear shifts are unclean, accompanied by grinding noises. Preliminary diagnostics suggest a faulty transmission oil temperature sensor. A potential cause indicated is a low gearbox oil level. Has anyone encountered something similar?

Summary of the thread

A 2018 Seat Leon with a gasoline engine is experiencing transmission issues, including an illuminated engine warning light, emergency mode activation, and unclean gear shifts with grinding noises. Preliminary diagnostics suggest a faulty transmission oil temperature sensor, potentially caused by a low gearbox oil level. The recommended solution is to check and possibly refill the transmission fluid and replace the faulty sensor, which was confirmed by a workshop diagnosis.

I had similar transmission issues with my Leon. The engine warning light came on intermittently, and the gear changes felt a bit rough. Have you checked the transmission fluid level? A low level can cause overheating and sensor malfunctions. The 'transmission' is the system that transfers power from the engine to the wheels, allowing the car to move, and the fluid keeps it lubricated.

When you experienced the rough gear changes and warning light, did it also trigger the emergency mode, limiting the car's speed? And did the diagnostic tool specifically point to the transmission oil sensor? Also, what mileage was your car at when the issue occurred?

Yes, the car went into emergency mode a few times. I do not recall the exact error code, but the mechanic mentioned the transmission sensor. My car had around 90000 km when the problem started. Given your symptoms, I would suggest taking it to a workshop for a proper diagnosis and repair before it leads to more serious transmission repair.

Thank you for the insight. It appears the issue was indeed related to the transmission oil temperature sensor, as suspected. The workshop confirmed the error code and found the oil level to be low, which they believe damaged the sensor. Total repair cost was 365€ including the new sensor and labor.
