Seat Mii Exhaust Treatment Malfunction

I'm getting desperate here! My Seat Mii, 2012 gasoline engine, with 189040 km on it, is showing an exhaust treatment malfunction. The engine light is on, the engine runs rough, and there's an exhaust leak with a strong smell. Is it the lambda sensor?

I had a similar issue with my Seat Mii. The engine light came on, and the engine was running rough. I suspected the EGR valve or even the particulate filter being clogged. Did you notice any changes in fuel consumption or any unusual noises?

My fuel consumption seems normal, and I haven't noticed any strange noises. Could it still be the EGR valve or particulate filter, even without those symptoms?

It is possible, but from my experience with the Seat Mii, rough running and a strong exhaust smell often points to a lambda sensor issue. While a faulty EGR valve or a clogged particulate filter can trigger the engine light, they usually come with other symptoms like reduced performance or increased fuel consumption. Given your symptoms, I would suggest having the lambda sensor checked first by a qualified workshop.

Thank you for your advice. I took it to a workshop and it turned out to be a defective lambda sensor. Repair cost me 375€. Now the car runs smoothly again.
