Seat Mii Fuel Consumption Issue

Alright, car gurus, I've got a head-scratcher. My 2011 Seat Mii with a gasoline engine is giving me grief. It's got 170053 km on the clock. The check engine light is on, and I'm burning way more fuel than usual. I've been reading about potential issues and saw something about the inlet VANOS mechanics could be faulty. Could that be it? I read it might be a defect in one of the camshaft solenoid valves or that power supply is not available. Any ideas?

Whoa, sounds familiar! I had almost the exact same thing happen with my Mii. Check engine light, and the fuel economy went down the drain. Have you checked the VANOS solenoid valve? The BMW VANOS system is known for this. Could be a VANOS failure. Is the engine misfiring?

VANOS solenoid valve, huh? Where exactly is that located, and is it something I could potentially replace myself? I'm not a total noob when it comes to cars, but I'm no expert either.

Yeah, sounds like the VANOS solenoid. It's a common issue. I wouldn't recommend doing it yourself unless you're very confident. You could mess things up more. It's probably best to get it checked by a workshop, but be prepared to hear about the solenoid valve being the culprit. In my case, replacing the VANOS solenoid fixed the engine misfire and the higher fuel consumption. It should cost around 250€.

Thanks! I took it to the workshop, and you were spot on. It was the VANOS solenoid. Replaced it, and the check engine light is gone. Runs like new! Cost me about 250€, just like you said.
