Seat Tarraco Gearbox Issue
Summary of the thread
A 2021 Seat Tarraco with a hybrid engine and approximately 103,950 km was experiencing gearbox issues, including slipping and rough shifts, possibly indicating mechanical wear in the transfer case. The problem was suspected to be related to gear oil maintenance, with metallic flakes in the oil being a potential indicator of internal wear. The issue was confirmed by a workshop to be a faulty transfer case, which was replaced, resolving the shifting problems.

Metallic flakes, huh? I haven't checked the oil myself yet. Where exactly should I be looking for these flakes? Is it obvious, or do I need a magnifying glass?

Yeah, if you see shiny bits in the gear oil, that's a big red flag. It means there's mechanical wear happening inside the transfer case – gears are grinding. I'd suggest taking it to a trusted mechanic to get it properly diagnosed. If it's the transfer case, you're looking at a replacement, but at least you'll know for sure. Like a bad tooth, it will only get worse.

Just letting you know, the workshop confirmed it. Transfer case was the problem. They replaced it, and the shifting is perfect now. Cost me about 330€, which isn't too bad. Thanks for the help!

Whoa, that sounds rough! I had something similar happen with my Tarraco. Gearbox slipping is never a good sign. Could be a transfer case issue. I'd check that gear oil quickly. Any sign of metallic flakes in the oil?
