Seat Tarraco Hybrid Overheating Issue
Summary of the thread
A 2021 Seat Tarraco hybrid is experiencing overheating issues, particularly when driving uphill or in traffic, and takes a long time to reach normal operating temperature. The coolant level appears normal, suggesting a potential thermostat problem, possibly a defective map thermostat. The solution involved checking for coolant leaks and replacing the thermostat, which resolved the overheating issue.

Thanks for the quick reply! Coolant leaks, you say? I haven't noticed any puddles under the car, but I'll definitely check around the thermostat housing and water pump for any signs of wetness or residue. Where exactly is the thermostat housing located? Is it something I can easily spot?

Yep, sounds exactly like what happened to me. The thermostat housing is usually where the top radiator hose connects to the engine. Look for a plastic or metal housing with a few bolts holding it together. If you're not comfortable poking around, I'd advise getting it checked by a professional. It's probably the thermostat, like you suspected, and if you let it go on for too long, it could damage the engine. A malfunctioning thermostat can mess with the entire coolant system and temperature control, potentially leading to more serious problems. Best get it sorted sooner rather than later!

Took it to the local garage, and you were spot on! It was indeed the thermostat. They replaced it, flushed the coolant system, and all seems good now. Cost me around 350€, just like you said. Thanks a bunch for your help!

Whoa, overheating is never good! I had a similar issue with my Seat Ateca – same engine, I think. The temperature gauge was all over the place, and sometimes it took ages for the engine to warm up. Have you checked for any coolant leaks around the thermostat housing or the water pump? That's where mine was leaking before it got worse. It could also be a faulty temperature sensor giving you false readings. Just a thought!
