Seat Tarraco knock sensor issue

Right, so I've got a problem with my 2022 Seat Tarraco, gasoline engine. The check engine light came on recently. It's done 55384 km. I'm also noticing that the fuel efficiency has dropped, and the engine idles unevenly sometimes. I scanned it, and it seems to be the knock sensor. I've read that it could be just a bad connection. Any ideas?

Summary of the thread

A 2022 Seat Tarraco experienced a check engine light, reduced fuel efficiency, and uneven idling, likely due to a knock sensor issue. The problem was suspected to be a bad connection, possibly a faulty cable or plug. After scanning for error codes and visually inspecting the connector, it was advised to check the wiring harness for damage or loose connections. Ultimately, a workshop confirmed a loose connection at the knock sensor plug, which was repaired, resolving the issue.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

A defective knock sensor on a 2022 Seat Tarraco could definitely cause those symptoms. The malfunction indicator illuminating, combined with higher fuel consumption and uneven idling, points in that direction. It's plausible a faulty cable or plug connection is the culprit, given the mileage. Before replacing the sensor, have you checked the wiring harness and connector for any visible damage, corrosion, or loose pins? Also, have you used an OBDII scanner to read the specific error code? Knowing the exact code would help confirm the diagnosis.

I did use an OBDII scanner and it gave me a knock sensor error code, I don't remember the exact code. I visually checked the connector, and it looked fine at first glance. What should I look for specifically on the wiring harness? Is there a way to properly test the connection without specialized tools?

Alright, the knock sensor error code strengthens the initial assessment. If the visual inspection didn't reveal anything obvious, it's harder to pinpoint the problem without proper tools. You'd ideally want to check the wiring harness for continuity and proper voltage using a multimeter. Given the potential impact on engine performance and fuel efficiency, and considering you don't have specialized tools, getting it checked at a workshop might be the most prudent approach. A faulty knock sensor can cause engine knock, which is not good. A workshop can properly diagnose whether it's the sensor itself or the wiring causing the issue.

Okay, thanks for the info. I took it to the workshop. Turns out, just like you said, the knock sensor plug had a loose connection. They fixed it for 95€ and the check engine light is gone. Hopefully, fuel efficiency is back to normal now.
